Do you love to feel the rush of acceleration? Do you have to resist the urge to race the vehicle next to you when the light turns green? Do you have a mindset that more power is always better? Does a 300-plus yard drive, a homerun, or a three-point basket make you feel good? Does the thought of a 12-point buck or an eight pound bass give you goose bumps? Do you enjoy being the fastest, loudest, strongest, smartest, best, or most impressive specimen of whatever you are involved in? Does any sort of challenge bring out the competitive side of you? Then this page is for you.
You might ask why I would have such a page on a ministry website? Honestly, I, Brad Brede, am one of those kind of guys. And I have discovered that there are others just like me. We love the Lord and our families. We work hard and want to play hard. We love the challenge of competition and the thrill of victory.
The Apostle Paul referred to competitive games in teaching us how to live victorious lives. First Corinthians 9:24-25 says, "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown."
We know there are more important things in life than sports and recreation, but let's be honest and admit that these things are important to us too. Stop thinking that you are less of a human being because you are a sportsman or recreationalist. Don't let self-righteous know-it-alls put labels of "redneck" or "gear head" on you in an attempt to lower your status in society. Embrace who you are in Christ.
I do not see Jesus Christ as a wimp. He has boldness and confidence. He trounced on the devil and then made a public show of him as a defeated foe (Colossians 2:15). Healthy competition is good and victory is sweet.
I know God likes things fast and powerful. The kingdom of God moves faster than the speed of light and His power is beyond comprehension. Eternity with the Lord is going to be awesome! I know I'm going to enjoy it. Talk about speed and power! But, I'm enjoying some things now on this earth and God doesn't have a problem with me doing so. That's why I'm an NHRA drag race fan - the most powerful and fastest accelerating cars on the planet. And I'm not ashamed of it!
WINTER IS FAST APPROACHING
The crisp air, cool temperatures, and falling leaves tells us that autumn is here and winter is coming. The summer activities are winding down and soon snow will be covering the ground - at least in Minnesota. This may not be a "happy thought" for some, but for us snowmobile enthusiasts it is our time to turn our thoughts to preparing our sleds, planning winter vacations, and determining how much money we want to spend on that new sled or to make our old one better. And yes, we do plan vacations to find snow, not escape it. All we can say is, "Let it snow!!!"
